The Fire Safety Order places responsibility on individuals within an organisation to carry out risk assessments to identify, manage and reduce the risk of fire. The order draft was set out on the 7th of June 2005 and came into force on the 1st of October 2006. Communal areas of apartment blocks, maisonettes and houses of multiple occupancy (HMO’s) are also subject to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO).
